BAA ANNOUNCEMENT IS A ‘SLAP IN THE FACE’ FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS

MPs dismayed at prospect of new runway and will campaign against any move on R3

Local MP’s Ann and Alan Keen feel BAA’s announcement this week is a let-down for local residents after the company’s previous expansion plans ruled out a further runway.

Alan Keen said,

"Runway 3 is a step too far. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, another runway at Heathrow should not happen. The majority of local residents will regard this announcement as a slap in the face.

I have considered myself a friend of BAA over the years but this latest move is stretching that relationship to the limit. The constituents of Feltham, Hanworth Heston, Bedfont, Cranford and Hounslow should be given priority over economics, flight schedules and what seems to be an expansion wish list.

I hope local residents will join me on the planned march in June together with HACAN and Friends of the Earth to show the strength of feeling locally.”

Ann Keen said,

"I will be making my voice heard and those of my constituents against any runway three. The economic benefits do not and should not outweigh the environmental concerns and the quality of life of local residents.”

Ends.
