Alan Keen died on Thursday 11th November 2011.

He was the MP for Feltham and Heston from 1992 until November 2011, serving the communities of Feltham, Bedfont, Hanworth, Cranford, Heston and Hounslow.

Alan Keen was first elected as MP for Feltham and Heston in 1992.  As an MP Alan Keen maintained his interest in sport, and was a member of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee.  He was also the long standing chair of the All Party Parliamentary Football Group, which undertook an inquiry into English football and its governance.  Because Heathrow is an important focal point in the local area, Alan was also the Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Aviation Group, as well as the All Party Group Against Financial Exploitation.

Alan Keen was born in Lewisham in 1937 but was brought up in the shadow of the steelworks in Grangetown close to Middlesbrough in Cleveland.

Alan left Teesside at the age of 22 to join the army and almost all his 3 years military service was spent within half a mile of the Houses of Parliament in Whitehall and Wellington Barracks.

After leaving the army Alan decided to stay in London and work as a systems analyst and manager.  During this period he also ran his own business in the Fire Safety industry and worked as a tactical scout for Middlesbrough Football Club. Greame Souness thanked Alan for helping to bring him to Middlesbrough FC during his early career.

His family returned to Middlesbrough for Alan's funeral in November 2011 attended by friends and family including Gordon Brown, Neil Kinnock, Laurie McMenemy and Ed Miliband.

Alan was an enthusiastic sportsman, and still played Football and Cricket until his death aged 73.

Constituency Profile

The Feltham and Heston constituency is the western half of the London Borough of Hounslow. Heathrow Airport is the boundary at the western edge and the area has a long history of air transport.

The existence of Heathrow has contributed to the growth of communities from all over the world but particularly from the Punjab. Strong signs of the old communitites of Bedfont, Feltham, Hanworth, Cranford and Heston still remain although the inevitable spread of suburbia has welded the area together.

Hounslow is a magnet for Global and National business interests and hosts many international Headquarters as well as the main service industries to the world's busiest international airport.

The constituency is the main portal from the west into central London serviced by the M4/A4 and a mainline rail interchange at Feltham and London Underground connections via the Piccadilly Line directly into the heart of  London
